Following a recruitment process by the Statistics Sierra Leone Council, Lansana Kpewolo Kanneh has been appointed as the Deputy Statistician General of the institution. Before his appointment, Kanneh had been acting in that position since May 2023.
The substantive Deputy Statistician General, has served the institution for 13 years and ascends to the post, following the sacking of the former Statistician General and his replacement by his former deputy, the current SG/CEO. The situation left the position of DSG vacant, until Lansana was appointed as a caretaker or Acting Statistician General, until his recent appointment as DSG, since April 1, 2023.
Until his appointment as Ag. Deputy Statistician General in June 2023, Kanneh, served as Director of Finance and Support Services, handling Finance, Administration, Human Resources and Procurement for 8 years.
In terms of qualifications, Kanneh holds the following qualifications: FCCA, M.Sc, MBA, and BSc. He has gained knowledge and wealth of experience in multi-donor funded project planning and implementation, and fiduciary management processes.
Kanneh has extensive knowledge and expertise in the management and conduct of censuses, surveys, administrative data collection, analysis, report writing and dissemination of data.
Kanneh also have extensive know-how data management and analysis tools including SQL, SPSS, Python and R.
With Kanneh’s extensive knowledge and wealth of experience with SSL for 13 years, couple with his experience in multi-donor funded project planning and implementation, and fiduciary management processes, his appointment as DSG will contribute immensely to revitalize SSL.
