The newly appointed Local Unit Commander, Ahmad Karamoh Kabbah, Goderich Police Division, led a street parade to combat crimes in the Western Rural District’s Peninsular Area. The parade was graced by police officers, community members, the area’s Member of Parliament, the media, and civil society.
Known for his exceptional performance and results-oriented actions in combating crimes in various regions across the country, LUC Kabbah is determined to ensure that the assignment before him is achieved for the peace and tranquillity of the rural community.
However, LUC Kabbah believes that to succeed, an extensive street parade is necessary to sensitize the community about the prevalence of crimes and lawlessness that has engulfed the peninsular area and the need to combat it. The leadership of the Sierra Leone Police has strategically deployed him to the Godrich police division to do what is needed and restore sanity in the area.
Talking to C4D Media, LUC Kabbah alluded that the peninsular area has been plagued by a host of criminal activities, including land grabbing, drug abuse, illegal sand mining, and other community crimes, raising serious security concerns among residents. He reiterated that he is mindful of the gravity of the situation. Therefore, he will go straight into action and initiate proactive measures to restore peace and security in the communities under his jurisdiction.
Considering his commendable work in Makeni, where he previously served as a Local Unit Commander, his transfer to the Goderich police division signals a strategic move by the Sierra Leone Police to leverage his expertise in combatting crime in the peninsular area. His focus on community engagement and collaborative efforts with stakeholders reflects a holistic approach to addressing the root causes of criminal activities.
Over the weekend, the street parade with his team of officers and senior stakeholders to raise awareness on critical crime issues affecting the community has been described as laudable in the direction. The parade, which spanned from Levuma Community to Tokeh Community, aimed to mobilize community members to stand against unlawful practices such as drug abuse (commonly referred to as ‘kush’), illegal sand mining, violence, land grabbing, criminal offences, and sexual gender-based violence (SGBV).
LUC Kabba emphasized the importance of engaging the community, which will expedite combating lawlessness effectively. He also highlighted the necessity of creating awareness and fostering a sense of collective responsibility among residents to uphold peace and security in the region. LUC Kabba’s proactive approach to addressing crime through community outreach signifies a shift towards community-oriented policing strategies.
A tipper driver, Balah Jalloh, commended LUC Kabba’s initiative, describing it as a groundbreaking effort that had not been witnessed in their community. He emphasized the significance of such engagements in promoting better community policing practices and ensuring lasting peace and security in the peninsular area.
During the street parade, former and current members of parliament, councillors, and prominent community stakeholders joined forces with LUC Kabba and his team, demonstrating a united front in the fight against crime. Their presence underscored the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies, government officials, and the community in addressing societal challenges and fostering a safer environment for all residents.
As LUC Kabba continues to spearhead initiatives to curb crime and promote peaceful coexistence in the Western rural district’s peninsular area, his dedication to community engagement and proactive measures serves as a beacon of hope for residents striving for a safer and more secure future. The success of his efforts hinges on sustained commitment from all stakeholders and a collective resolve to end lawlessness and promote a culture of peace and respect within the communities.
The banner used in the procession speaks volumes, articulating the vision of LUC Kabbah and areas in which he would give his all to combat. They include Kush trading and intake, illegal sand mining, violence, land grabbing, criminal offence and Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV).
