Kid Wins NLE 25000: UBA maiden edition back to school remittance promo

United Bank for Africa (UBA) has brought smiles to the faces of the family of Angel Amara Fefegula (kid) who has emerged as the winner of the maiden edition of their “back to school remittance promo.”

The raffle draw took place at UBA’s head branch on Charlotte Street in Freetown, on Friday 12th of January 2024.

Immediately after the raffle that lasted for 30 seconds, a call was placed to the mother of the lucky winner,  Angel Amara Fefegula, who expressed delight over the phone as a result of her daughter’s good fortune.

The mother, Saio Alma Kamara remarked that she is also a customer of the bank, noting that she hadn’t any regret banking with the best bank.

Head of Marketing and Corporate Communication, United Bank for Africa (UBA), Salieu Sesay opined that some people finds it difficult to extend a hand of generosity in the month of January, but noted that “we owe it to our customers.”

Sesay emphasized the need for parents to open a savings account for their children, noting that that is an early investment.

Acting Head of Retail Banking, United Bank for Africa (UBA), Anita Thomas, also encouraged parents to open a ‘Kiddies’ account for their kid, for according to Thomas, opening a kiddies account for the child may just introduce that child to savings.

The Acting Head of Retail Banking further mentioned that there isn’t much difficulty in opening a kiddies account, adding that a kiddies account can be opened for a child on the first day of birth until that child turns 12-year-old, and then the account will automatically change to Teens account.

As per requirement to open the account, parents are required to pay a deposit of NL 250. They are also required to present the birth certificate and the photograph of the child.

In terms of benefit, Thomas mentioned that the account holder will have access to a card, mobile app, transaction notification and interest rate. However, she disclosed that parents are encouraged not to withdraw more than three times in the year, for if they did so, they will not be awarded any interest rate.

Head of Remittance, United Bank for Africa (UBA), Anthony Sam who witnessed the raffle highlighted the four key remittance products that the bank offers, such as Africash, RIA, MoneyGram, and Western Union.

Among the aforementioned products, Sam spoke highly of the Africash which he said is UBA’s proprietary money transfer product that was introduced in April 2009, adding that it is available in 20 African countries.
